Meet Dr. Welton

For Dr. Roger Welton, it all started when he was a 4 year old boy, as he sat in the waiting room with his father, consumed with worry while the veterinarian worked to save his beloved cocker spaniel, Waldo. Later that evening at home, with Waldo on the mend, he told his parents that he wanted to be just like the man who saved Waldo. That experience would later be the inspiration for his book, The Man in the White Coat: A Veterinarian’s Tail of Love.

That experience also put young Roger Welton’s life on a path that would lead to a career as veterinary general practitioner uniquely accomplished in the improvement and saving of innocent furry lives.

Dr. Welton graduated from Ross University, School of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. Prior to graduation, Dr. Welton completed a year of clinical training at the University Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine teaching hospital, and three externships at the prestigious Animal Medical Center in NYC in soft tissue surgery, orthopedic surgery and medical oncology, respectively.

Dr. Welton was very discerning about his first job as a veterinarian, choosing the most cutting edge, busy, and comprehensive practice in Long Island, New York. As a young veterinarian, he gained extensive experience in veterinary surgery, internal medicine, emergency and critical care, diagnostic imaging, clinical pathology, dentistry, and physical rehabilitation. Moving to the Florida Space Coast in 2004, Dr. Welton acquired Maybeck Animal Hospital and was a general partner in the acquisition of Grant Animal Clinic in 2019.

Dr. Welton is a prolific writer, founder and chief author of the global blog, Web-DVM.net. He also runs the popular podcast The Space Coast Pet Podcast, streamed in syndication from this website (it is also on Spotify and Apple Podcasts).
